How to Sell Your Home in 2024
Considering selling your property this year? In our latest article here on the Knowledge Hub of our site, we compile some top tips from around the Internet to ensure the process isn’t just smooth and stress-free, it allows you to keep track of your finances and spend as little as possible, too. Read on to discover a host of hacks for selling your home in 2024…
Consider Storage
It doesn’t matter how big your house is, you’ll always manage to fill it. That isn’t quite a universal fact, but it should be. When we say ‘fill it’, we mean pack it to the rafters. It’s just what we, as homeowners (or tenants) seem to do.
When you’re in the market for a new home, then, you’ll likely be looking for plenty of storage – and so will prospective buyers when they’re viewing properties. House Beautiful offers a wealth of ideas for those who have typed ‘sell my house’ into an online search engine – and smart storage is one.
Consider how hard your current storage works for you – and if it doesn’t contain all your belongings comfortably, add more shelving or cabinets before you put your house on the market. Alternatively, think about putting bulkier items into an external storage facility if you can afford it. That way, anyone looking around your home can will see an orderly, relaxing space and not one with toys and books clumsily piled in every nook and cranny.
Shelving and cabinets needn’t cost the earth, so if you’ve Googled ‘sell my house fast’, this could well be a cost-effective and simple way to do just that.
Maximise Space with a Mirror
Small house or flat? Create the illusion of space by strategically positioning mirrors in the rooms that need a little extra help. Not only will they make your rooms look bigger, but they’ll add immediate interest to the space.
Again, a few mirrors here and there shouldn’t break the bank – and, if you can, you could scour online marketplaces like Vinted, Facebook Marketplace or eBay to pick up an even better bargain.
Create a ‘Fix List’
How functional is your home? If there are a few little jobs that need tending to, now’s the time to see to them before you think about selling your home.
Whether it’s a simple paint touch-up here and there or some minor fixes to the exterior of your property, every little job done will make a huge difference when prospective buyers view your home.
Make it Modern
In this piece for The Mirror, residential and commercial property developer, Henry Martin suggests adding some modern touches to your home to make it more saleable.
He says: “Not only does this add up to £8.85K to your property, but it will create a home in which visitors will feel comfortable and joyful.”
Don’t Forget the Outdoor Space
The Mirror article is choc-full of simple ways to sell your home. Here’s another: don’t forget the outdoor space. After all, it’s the first thing people will see when they view your property.
As highlighted in the piece, ’30 per cent of UK residents stated that when buying a home, they hold more value in the garden than inside space.’
According to a report from Rated People, 64 per cent of UK residents state they wouldn’t buy a home if it didn’t have an outdoor space, states the article. While the report dates back to 2021, we doubt much has changed when it comes to people’s wants and needs when buying a home.
So, that’s your reminder to head into your garden and make a start. It doesn’t have to cost you a lot, but it could make a huge difference to the value of your home. Not much of a gardener? YouTube is your friend; you’ll find plenty of handy tutorials to help you create a garden to be proud of.
